More challenges

There are places in Scripture that challenge our understanding and belief. Jesus’ teaching on the bread from heaven is one such place.

“How can he give us his flesh to eat?” argued the Jews among themselves. When Jesus spoke of eating his flesh and blood as a condition for life, he presented them with a difficult teaching.

Jesus’ listeners were taking him too literally about what food and drink is truly life-giving. He presented them and us with a challenge to expand the way we look at life, a challenge to see the ways that Christ can be present to us and nourish us.

In the Eucharist we receive the Body and Blood of the Lord as food for our journey as a community united in faith and called to experience the fulness of life now and in the world to come. May we be receptive to all the Lord holds out to us.

“…whoever eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6:58).

  2. It is miraculous what God can and will do when we completely turn our lives over to Him! He took all my suffering and pain; all my horrible, difficult times to form me into the person I am. A person who is the perfect mixture for the wonderful job I just got at my beloved homeless shelter! If I had not gone through all of it, I could not relate as well to our residents. I am not just like them – I am them!
