Today we begin the holy season of Lent. The ashes placed on our head today are meant to remind us of our mortality, but not in a morbid way, because of the resurrection of Jesus. We are destined for life, and our death in this life is the portal to eternal life.
I use black and white images today, reminiscent of the grayness of the ashes, but these images are not meant to convey a negative judgment of the reality they represent. Rather they encourage us to look at the world with new eyes and to appreciate it in new ways.
Likewise, our celebration of Lent invites us to look at our life with new eyes, seeing and embracing our invitation to walk the way of the cross with Jesus, so that we might also share in his resurrection.
May these 40 days be a season of new appreciations and blessings for you and your loved ones.
“See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2)
