This is the time of renewed life. We see it in the greening of the earth, in the budding of trees and flowers, and in enlivened spirits, as winter gives way to spring. We see it in the hopes of baseball fans, as their favorite team begins their quest for the world championship. We celebrate at this time of hope the new birth that the Resurrection of Jesus brings to us.
All of the small Easters we experience–renewed friendships, the birth of children and grandchildren, the healing of relationships, the feeling of renewal after vacation or a period of retreat, the experience of great beauty, of periods of creativity, of making good decisions, a return to good health, making new connections–all of the events which renew us and give life meaning–all of these are a hint of what God has in store for us in the resurrection of Jesus.
The story of Jesus tells us that there is a good ending to our story–that there is resurrection and new life, not only while we still live, but also in the life to come. That indeed is Good News.
Happy Easter to you all!
“May the light of Christ rising in glory dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds.” (from the lighting of the Easter candle at the Easter vigil)
