Wake up

Perhaps during this Christmas season God is giving us a wake-up call to see the divine presence in our life each day, to wake up to our blessings, to wake up to seeing the presence of Christ in the world around us, in every person, in the earth on which we live, in the stars of the universe.

Jesus is the sign that God inhabits our universe not as a distant spirit, but in the specifics of our everyday life. The proclamation of the angels “Peace on earth” is not good wishes from a distant realm, but rather it is God’s message to us: “Here I am. I am here to bring peace. I’m here to work with you for the growing of God’s Reign on earth.”

If there was ever any doubt that our God cares for us, the birth of Jesus, God made flesh, should put an end to that doubt, not just by his birth, but by his life, death, and resurrection. His birth is simply the beginning.

With Christmas the story of our redemption from sin and death takes a new and dramatic turn. The almighty God enters into human life to give us the example and testimony of self-sacrificing love. Merry Christmas to all!

“For a child is born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder dominion rests; they name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:5)
