Reconciliation

There is a great need for reconciliation on the national level. There are troubling trends in our society, where truth is whatever you want to believe, where people who are different in any way are seen as a threat, where hateful words and actions are justified in the name of Christianity.

How do we change this? On a larger scope, we can vote for people who will work for justice and reconciliation. On a day-to-day level, we can be what we hope the world to become.

So how do we approach our need for reconciliation and unity? There are two things I think are important here. We have to trust that God is at work with us, and we have to take the long view.

It’s not coincidental that almost all of Jesus’ parables about the Kingdom of God are agricultural, involving growing plants. Growing plants demands attention and patience and trust in the process. It’s that way in God’s Kingdom. God is the Master Gardener, and sometimes what we do might seem like pulling weeds, but that helps the garden as well. Trust in the work of the Holy Spirit.

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 15:20)

Today’s images are of the skyline of New York City from Liberty State Park.

I especially like the perspective of the Statute of Liberty from the back. That photo could conjure many essays. Thanks for another great collection

I, too, am disturbed by the direction our country seems headed. I have friends who I pray are paranoid by the fears of what might be to come. And then I remember that I am not in charge. He is. He sees all and will be triumphant in the end. As Our Lady has said: “Finally my immaculate heart will triumph.” and we know that she always leads us to her Son. I take comfort in that.

Hi, I very much enjoy receiving Spirit Photo, but for some reason during the last couple of months there have been no photos. I know that my niece receives both texts and photos. Could you advise me what I need to do to get the photos? ________________________________

Not sure what’s happening here. I always post photos with the text. Perhaps try unfollowing and then follow again? Or ask your niece to forward the post to you. Good luck with it.
