The way, the truth, the life

Jesus is the Way. It can be easy to lose our way in life–making poor, self-seeking choices and living without a sense of purpose and meaning. Jesus invites us to turn to him for guidance in how we live and how we choose and where we discover life’s meaning. He is the Way.

He is the Truth. We must be true to who God calls us to be. We must seek truth and act on it, not just so we can be righteous, but so as a people we can live in right relationship with others and with the earth.

We are all part of the body of creation and called to live as members of one another. As St. Paul tells us in his metaphor of the Church as the Body of Christ, when one member hurts, all hurt. When one member rejoices, all rejoice.

Jesus is also the Life. He does not give us a sanitized version of life. His is a life of great joy and fulfillment, but also a life of suffering. Both come into our life, and both can lead us to a fuller existence.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me.” (John 14:1)
