Jesus’ disciples were upset when Jesus, speaking of his death, told them he had to leave them. They had grown over the course of their time together to love him very much, and they didn’t want him to go.
But he knew he would be going to the Father’s house and that he would prepare a place for his followers. That promise comes down through the centuries to us here today. We always have a home with Jesus, both on this earth and in heaven.
The disciples did not understand what Jesus was saying and wanted a roadmap to where he would be going. They wanted a picture. They wanted some certainty. Well, Jesus himself was that map for them and for us as well.
He says to them, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.” So how do we journey to the Father’s home? Follow the roadmap that Jesus gives us.
“I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.” (John 14:3)
