When I think about the good teachers I have had over the years, several of their qualities stand out. They knew their subject very well. They could communicate well with their students. They enjoyed what they were doing.
When we consider what made Jesus a good teacher, we think of these qualities and more. He had something important to tell us. He helped us connect with our heavenly Father. He helped people in need. He taught by his actions. He loved what he did, and he loved the people he taught.
So what does that mean for us? Well, it means that Jesus is our teacher too; that he has important things to say to us about how to live a good and happy life; that he is our connection with our heavenly Father; that he loves interacting with his people, and that he loves us. He loves you and me.
I think that’s important to hold on to during the ups and downs, the victories and the defeats, the rewarding times and the challenging times that come into our life. Jesus has our back. He walks with us and lifts us up when we are falling. He is the one who is always with us on our journey of faith and calls us to be connected with him through our own spiritual practice.
“The Lord lifts up all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.” (Psalm 145:14)
