Multiplication

One of the more spectacular of the miracles of Jesus was the multiplication of loaves and fishes, where Jesus feeds thousands of people with five loaves of bread and two fish.

When I meditate on this scene, I like to look at it from the perspective of the boy who brought the loaves and fish to Jesus. What must the experience have been like for him, to see Jesus work a miracle with something the boy himself had provided?

When we use our gifts in the service of others, we don’t know how many people we will affect, because it is God working through our efforts to bring about the growth of God’s Reign.

We can trust in God that whatever we do in the living out of our faith will produce a harvest beyond what we can imagine, a harvest leading to everlasting life, the hundredfold promised to those who receive the word of God and act upon it.

“When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, ‘This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.'” (John 6:14)
