Advent is about waiting, receptivity, hope, an open heart, trusting in the Lord’s promise of new life, and being willing to live in that trust and hope.
Sometimes it’s hard to have that receptive posture, when we are faced with so many in our society who are angry and closed-hearted, and whose idea of God is very small and not very much like the Jesus of the scriptures.
The image of the innkeeper who refused to serve the Holy Family comes to mind. Whether or not he had room for them is beside the point. He stands for all those who refuse to let the Spirit of Jesus into their life, preferring to lock themselves inside their own small world.
My photos are about waiting and receptivity and acting at the opportune time. They’re also about working with the images to reflect my experience of the moment. Advent is a time for us to work on our receptivity of the Lord’s presence and focus on living the new life we are called to, with hearts open to all the Lord wants to give us.
“Prepare the way of the Lord. Make straight his paths…All flesh shall see the salvation of God.” (Luke 3:4,6)
