For me summer is the time to find some relaxation by the shore. For many years I have been going to Cape May Point, NJ, as chaplain at a retreat house run by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Philadelphia. It’s been a wonderful getaway and change of pace for me.
This year I have also ministered to the Catholic community on Cuttyhunk island off the coast of Massachusetts. It’s a small community who persevere in faith and worship, even though it is difficult for them to find priests to travel there each weekend.
I was again by the shore for my retreat in Gloucester, MA, a privileged place and time to pray, reflect, discern, and recharge my batteries after an academic year of administration and teaching.
I hope that you are able to find some time for reflection, relaxation, and renewal in your own life this year, whether it be during the summer or in some other season. It’s during such times that we connect with our deepest self and realize how blessed we are.
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)
