A different lens

I recently acquired a vintage Minolta lens to use on my Fujifilm digital camera. These older lenses are popular for their out-of-focus effects and quirks, such as the swirly background or lens flare that they can produce. Modern lenses, by contrast, have become super sharp, as manufacturers strive to make the perfect lens.

I believe it’s the imperfect, sometimes unpredictable results of these vintage lenses that is a large part of their attraction. In an age where many are striving for the perfect photographic image, there are also many who appreciate the individuality and quirks of these older lenses and the images they produce.

In life and in faith it’s important to acknowledge our imperfections. This leads to a healthy humility and an appreciation of the contributions of others to our common welfare.

We are not God, but we are an imperfect lens through which God’s light shines on our world. In our own unique, flawed way, we are the image of God for the world–something to be appreciated and celebrated!
