Kindness 2

Perhaps there are times in the coming week when you can contemplate the kindness of Jesus. Maybe it’s the moment before you receive communion, or during the odd quiet moments of your day, a time to reflect on how you are blessed by God and how you can become a person of greater kindness, when you are waiting for your ride to arrive or the microwave to finish, or while enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, or when you’re out for a walk—random quiet moments in your day, when you can remember Jesus.

How can you share kindness with others in a world where there is much unkindness and where there is great need for love and support? What might we do to bring the peace of Christ to others—those close to us and those we don’t even know? How can we notice and remember Jesus?

You become what you eat. This is obvious on cruise ships, where you can eat 24/7, no exaggeration, and people can return home a bit heavier than when they left. When we receive the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ, we are invited into a new life, a new way of living in the world. We are invited to share in the life of Christ, who says, “I myself am this bread. My life will be broken like this bread. I give it to you, so that you may have a share in me.”

When we receive communion, we take into ourselves the very presence of Jesus, who is there for us in all kindness and love, inviting us to be transformed into that which we contemplate, into that which we consume. Let us give thanks.

“Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)
