Sacrifice and creativity

Self-sacrifice and creativity for the good of others, after the example of Jesus, is the key to our living in God’s new creation. How can we respond creatively to the presence and the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and what sacrifices do we need to make for this to happen?

On the global level, we’re being called to create a world that values and supports each one of God’s children and the whole of creation. On the local level, we face the question of how God wants to renew our own lives and the life of our community. How can our gift of self support the new creation we are called to be?

The wonder of the resurrection is that we are invited to become part of God’s new world. This is what gives us hope, in what at times can seem to be a hopeless world. God can make all things new, even our sins and failings and shortcomings, through forgiveness and grace.

I think it’s helpful to think of our lives this way. We are accomplishing something that will become part of God’s new world. It’s up to us to decide how we will do that and what our focus will be, but our faith tells us that God will renew the face of the earth. We are invited to share in that new creation.

“See, I have God for my help. The Lord sustains my soul. I will sacrifice to you with willing heart, and praise your name, O Lord, for it is good. (Psalm 54: 6,8)
