Invitation

In the gospel Jesus asks a question we have heard before: “Who do you say that I am?” (Mt 16:15) In a way, it’s a question we face each day, as we open ourselves to Christ’s presence in the people we work with and for, in family, in community, and in our prayer life.

Jesus might ask a further question of us: “How do you experience me in the context of your daily life?” The apostles felt the presence of the Lord very strongly as they went about their life; a presence that gave them great joy in their successes and even in failures and difficulties. They realized that nothing could separate them from the love of the Lord. They weren’t in it for themselves or by themselves.

The invitation is extended to us to see something of the apostles in the dynamic of our own life, as we strive to integrate prayer and action, growing in union with the Lord and letting that union find expression in our way of being in the world.

How do we see Jesus at work in the people and situations we encounter each day and in our personal life? And what are we being called to by the Spirit of the Lord? What is the “Magis” in our life–not quantitative, but having to do with purity of heart and dedication. It connotes a depth and spiritual strength, something we grow in as we continue to walk with the Lord.

“Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.'” (Matthew 16:15)

Good Afternoon Fr. Ron, Another stunning collection of photos. Here is a quote tangentially related to your message: “I know what I’ve given you. I do not know what you have received.” Antonio Porchia from Voices All best, Lynn
