Divine vision

The prophet Hosea tells us to look at the world the way God looks at the world. It is a call for a reorientation in how we live and how we interact with each other and with the world we live in. But how do we do this? How do we know how God sees the world? How do we let God’s love permeate our heart and soul to produce good fruit?

First, by recognizing our place in the grand scheme of things, that the world does not revolve around us, that God is Creator, and we are creatures made for union with God and with each other. Second, by looking to Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life. We know God loves us, because of the way Jesus lived and loved.

Thirdly, by developing our own spiritual practice, a way in which we regularly connect with the presence of the Holy Spirit in our life. God is always lovingly present, but we’re not always aware of this. A spiritual practice of regular prayer and worship can help us to connect more closely with the Lord and discern our way through life’s ups and downs.

May the Lord’s presence in us be like the gentle spring rain that brings about new life and new growth, and may God’s peace be with us all.

“For it is love that I desire, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” (Hosea 6:6)
