“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). There is something awesome and mysterious about life–the beginning, the end, and everything in between. We would like to do away with the difficult part, but somehow the difficult is a necessary part of growing and deepening in our humanity. It all belongs.
There is a time to weep and a time to laugh. And somehow our joyful times help us to get through the times we weep, and our weeping together eventually leads us to a greater appreciation of our blessings. It all belongs.
Ecclesiastes continues, “I know that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; God has done this, so that all should stand in awe before him” (Ecclesiastes 3:14).
It is fitting that we stand in awe, not just of God, but that we stand in awe of all those people in our life who reflect God’s light and God’s love to us; those who point out to us, as Jesus did, the way, the truth, and the life.
“That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already is; and God seeks out what has gone by.” (Ecclesiastes 3:15)
