Healing

I find healing to be a fascinating subject. Healing has its own pace, whether it’s a physical healing, or psychological, or spiritual, or a healing of relationships, or the process of grieving. It can be helped along, but it cannot be rushed.

The issue of illness and healing connects with Jesus’ instruction to take up our cross and follow him. Illness is a real cross to carry. Navigating from cross to redemption and renewal is a process that takes time and is not always easy.

What I find helpful in a situation where I need healing is 1) to engage, 2) to trust the process, and 3) to have patience. This applies on the physical level, where I need to respond appropriately to help the healing, but it also applies to other challenging areas of life on a deeper level: 1) to engage Jesus in mindfulness and prayer, 2) to trust my journey with him, and 3) to be patient, allowing the Lord’s healing process to bring me to life.

Engagement in the arts, such as photography, can assist the healing process by engaging one in the present moment, by giving oneself to and trusting the creative process, and by patiently allowing the image to come to one’s imagination, a receptive process that opens one to growth and renewal.

“The crowds followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing.” (Luke 9:11)

This is post #200. I began posting weekly four years ago. I never thought I would continue with this project for so long. I’m gratified that so many have found my images and reflections helpful. I have no idea how much longer I will continue publishing Spiritphoto, but, at least for the present, I will continue. Much will depend on how often I am able to get out with my camera.
